Meet Aidan Walsom
My name is Aidan. Aidan Walsom I was 13 when my mum was diagnosed with lymphoma cancer in 2008. Shortly after diagnosis, mum spent three weeks in guys hospital with a chest drain. Everyday after school I used get on the train and meet my dad at London Bridge station to spend a couple of precious hours with her.
Once the initial treatment was complete she then started a 6 month course of aggressive chemo, this was awful as a young lad seeing your mum looking so weak and frail, the hair went, the skin complexion was pale, and she could hardly walk. Things started to get better, but then 18 months later the dreaded C word returned back in her eye. Another lengthy hospital stay at Royal Marsden and things were looking bleak. Another 6 months of chemo passed and an emergency stem cell transplant was booked in.
This was truly the last resort as there was a 20% chance this wouldn’t work and the cancer would win. Over 10 years have now passed and mum is completely cancer free, her what once was regular check ups every month are now irregular at a year and I’ve never seen her look so healthy!
